Overall Take:

What a fun read! I really enjoyed it.

Star Rating:

4.5 Stars

Genre:

Thriller

Synopsis:

When Daphne finds herself alone in the small Michigan town, she ends up rooming with the only other one person who would understand. Miles. Why is he the only one who could understand? Because her ex left her, to be with his ex. Fitting, right?

Miles and Daphne are opposites. He’s scruffy, where she’s more put together. She’s practical, where he’s freer spirited. They aren’t exactly meant to be friends, but when drowning their sorrows one night they form an unlikely alliance and a plan.

It’s of course all for show, right?

Thoughts:

This was such an interesting and intriguing read. This is one of those thrillers where you are left guessing the entire time, all the way to the end.

This was more of a character driven book instead of a plot driven book. With that in mind, the characters were really well developed, and I think the author shined in bringing them to life and giving them depth.

I enjoyed not being able to guess what was going on, and there were plenty of red herrings along the way that had me scratching my head. It was a little challenging to get into this one, but once I did I enjoyed the story. It was hard to read about Annie’s struggles with her mental health, but it was written in a way that was realistic and relatable which I appreciated.

If you are looking for a slow burn thriller with a focus on mental health, then check this one out.
