Synopsis:

Sophia’s first memory is of drowning. While she vividly remembers drowning in the ocean, and being saved by her mom, she also knows shes never been in the ocean and her mom died years ago, or so she’s been told.

Now years later, Sophia ends up in Alaska where her mom worked right before she died. People have been vanishing from this town for decades, leaving only their echoes behind. Sophia vows to dig up the truth, no matter what it takes.

Thoughts:
This book was entertaining and a lot of fun. I really enjoy Kate Alice Marshall’s writing style and read all her books. I listened to this one on audio, and it was a treat. It was really twisty and kept me guessing the entire time. The concept of echoes was really engaging. Sophia went to great lengths to try to figure out what happened to her mom, and in the process hopefully why she was different. I loved how the answers unfolded slowly along the way, up until the final reveal. The mixed media format was a lot of fun, and even though I listened to it on audio, the way it was done was nice and added a lot of enjoyment to my reading experience. This book was pretty spooky and gave me chills at certain points, it was great. I do think that the romance fell a little flat, the chemistry was just not there for me to be fully on board with it.

I think this is a great, spooky, YA horror and fans of the genre will enjoy.
