Synopsis
Jane and Dan have been married for nineteen years, but Jane doubts they’ll make it to twenty, feeling unneeded by her teenagers, seeing her writing career falter, and suspecting Dan of infidelity. As they celebrate their anniversary at the upscale restaurant La Fin du Monde, Jane plans to ask for a divorce, but their dinner is interrupted by an underground climate activist group who take the diners hostage. Shockingly, the activists’ actions mirror the plot of Jane’s failed novel, and only she and Dan know what will happen next. Together, they must navigate the crisis, hoping to survive both the ordeal and their marriage.
Thoughts:
I just finished reading this book, and I have to say, it was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish! I was immediately drawn into Jane and Dan’s story. I could totally relate to Jane feeling unneeded by her teenagers and struggling with her stalled writing career. Her situation felt so real and made me empathize with her right away. When she suspected Dan of cheating, I felt her frustration and heartache.
The twist came when they went to the upscale restaurant La Fin du Monde for their anniversary dinner. I was on the edge of my seat when the underground climate activist group burst into the dining room. The suspense was palpable, and I couldn’t believe how everything the activists did was straight out of Jane’s failed book. I was amazed at how the author blended elements of comedy and tension so seamlessly.
I found it incredibly engaging that Jane and Dan were the only ones who knew what was going to happen next. Their dynamic as they tried to navigate the hostage situation and stop the activists was both thrilling and heartwarming. I laughed at some of their banter and rooted for them to survive not just the crisis but also their marriage.
Overall, this book was a delightful mix of suspense, humor, and heart. I loved how it explored the complexities of a long-term relationship under extraordinary circumstances.
