Synopsis:
Gene and Luis used to know each other. Gene is the first openly trans player in professional baseball. When Luis is hired back to be on the team they find that they can’t manage a civil conversation on or off the field. But as time goes on, and the two keep working together, their tension turns electric. Could there be more to the shared glances and shoulder brushes.
Thoughts:
This is a book first and foremost about baseball. I picked this one up because I read some reviews saying it was a romcom first, with baseball second in the story and they didn’t enjoy baseball, but they enjoyed the story. I was like hey, that is me, I want romance, and minimal baseball because I am not a fan. However, it wasn’t long into the story that I knew I should have headed my warnings and backed out because it was too baseball heavy for me. Now I did really love the sweet romance that happened between Luis and Gene. I also appreciated how Gene being transgender was handled within the book, The romance that blossoms between them is just so sweet. The amazing found family that they had around then was also refreshing.
Overall, I just feel that this book was about the love of baseball first, and then the love between the characters second and I needed the inverse. The writing is beautiful and well done, and I’m excited to read more from this author.
