Thoughts:
This was such a great read! It did take me a little while to get into because the author slowly was building things up, laying the groundwork for what was to come. But then oh boy, watch out. The pace picked up and took right off with action. I was intrigued from the get-go, even when things were slower, I was readily engaged and needed to know what was going to happen, and that is a big accomplishment. I appreciated how clever this book was. I didn’t see the twists coming because they snuck up on me in the best of ways. I adored the setting of this book as well, it was so atmospheric and eerie.
I haven’t read the other two books in the series, and while this is book three, I think that it does work as a stand-alone. I didn’t feel lost along the way though I am interested in learning more about the characters so might go back to read them.
