Synopsis:
Riley finally has the chance to turn her family’s business professional when she’s hired to break the curse on an infamous Scottish castle.
When she arrives she is surprised to run into the handsome Clark, the archeologist on the site. Clark wants nothing to do with the pretty “curse breaker”.
Neither of them wants anything to do with the other but they keep finding themselves in close proximity.
Thoughts:
This was such a fun book to experience on audio. I absolutely loved the narrators of this book. They were fabulous and did such an amazing job bringing the characters to life! The voices matched what I envisioned for the characters perfectly, the male narrator even had the accent to match. Even better was the dual narration so we got to hear the story from both Riley and Clark’s point of view.
I did get a little hung up with the long chapters and would have preferred they been a little shorter. I find that it is easier to pay attention when the chapters are on the shorter side. I’m not sure of the logic behind this, but it works for me.
The rivals to lover’s trope was done well. I loved that for everything Clark threw at Riley, she was able to turn it around and come out on top. She proved that she knew what was going on.
The characters had such great banter, and it was really brought to life in the narration. I just can’t say enough about the fabulous narration. The spice in this one was also amazing. It wasn’t over the top, but for the scenes that were present, they were done well, and a lot of fun on audio.
The pacing was nice and the book flowed at a nice pace. The writing propelled the reader through the story at a nice clip and I was engaged enough I didn’t want to put it down.
The thing that fell a little flat, was despite the banter, it seemed at times the characters forced themselves to dislike each other in an unnatural way. It was a little odd and puzzling for me and I was left a little perplexed at times. But overall, I really enjoyed this read and wish I would have listened to it sooner.
